Irish Richfords

     Relatively few Richfords appear in Ireland. Information taken from Grenham's Irish Surnames1 lists only 5 households in the the 1847-64 Griffith's Valuation survey - all located in County Wexford. Without further research it is difficult to be certain about the origins of these families. Rochford (183 households) and the variant Rochfort (85 households) are far more numerous in Ireland - hence it is always possible (as in other parts of the UK) that the Richfords may be a "typographical variant" of these names.
